Chain Letters For Democracy
Good afternoon! I received this from my dad today, and decided to spend my lunch break reading it.  My primary impulse when I receive one of these forwarded email chain-letters is to begin identifying sources and tracking down the authenticity of claims.    After all, what is social awareness and commentary without critical thought? Statement: “Let’s be clear on this: OBAMA did NOT kill Bin...

Addendum...
In regards to No More Heroes, I would like to say that Shinobu, the eighth ranked UAA assasin, is a complete cheating bitch. Thank you, that is all.

Glaring Oversight
Google Maps did an update, and extended their Street View service to cover Phoenix and some of the outlying areas.  That’s the upside.  The other half of it is that they apparently did their sweeps in the middle of last summer, as shown by construction work and the blinding glare that obscures most of the images, and they are not nearly as high-res as the Bay Area shots.  It definitely cut...

Overconsuming Non-Consumerism?
I spent $100 yesterday at Lowes.  Here’s what I got. $50 Dremel kit $10 2 grip c-clamps $3 plastic cutting knife $12 Dremel carbide cutter bit $20 .98” acrylic 12”x24” sheet $2 straight edge ruler All of this so that I can make a new faceplate for my Sansa, now cracked, which Sandisk doesn’t sell.  I’m sure that I’ll be putting it all to good...

Flailing Geeks: Home Edition
Starting on September 25th, I’m going to have a whole mess of wires, pads and remotes strewn around my living room, all tied to my little Wii. Konami will be releasing it’s second Nintendo based DDR mix, Hottest Party to the North America market. Not only can you play standard DDR modes, but the nasty tricks invoked by Mario Mix’s Mush Mode have been incorporated, as well as...

Syntax
Like a lot of programmers, I have preferred tools and development platforms. I’m flexible, I can work under different environments, so long as the applications are designed for maintainability, but when they aren’t, I find myself wanting to do nothing more than rip it apart and rebuild it from the ground up. Curious what set me off about this? It’s a little archaic database...

The Last Arcade On Earth
As a child of the 80’s, I grew up in arcades. Even the local Circle K had a pair of cabinets set up to get your gaming groove on. Now, it’s rare to even see one lonely machine sitting in a laundrymat. That’s why I love Gameworks at Arizona Mills.

Next Saturday Morning...
For some reason or other, I’ve been having a song from an old Saturday morning preview show named “Back to Next Saturday” running through my head.  I’m not sure why.  The show had such illuminables as The Smurfs, Punky Brewster, Kidd Video, The Snorks, Spiderman and His Amazing Friends, Alvin and the Chipmunks and even Mr T.  Eventually, I’m planning on getting the...

LOLcats
Memes are funny things.  Literally.  Some are funny, some are stupid, some just confuse the heck out of me.  LOLcats are one of the former…  there’s nothin’ funnier than an adorably anthropomorphic cute kitten using l33tspeak.

Vision Problem
I only have one pair of glasses, and I haven’t been able to find them for the last couple of days. I needed a new set anyways, but I’m not terribly keen on having to go a month or so until 1) my health insurance kicks in, 2) I get an eye exam and 3) the order arrives. My eyesight isn’t too horrible, but glasses make it much easier to drive or read a computer screen without having...

Requirements?
I had a job interview a bit ago.  For the job I’m doing right now, but with more pay and benefits.  Good deal, eh?  Now I’ve just got to work my way though a metric ass-load of application documents.

Warp Pipes
I’ve been playing with Yahoo Pipes a lot over the last week, working with several ideas.  It’s a neat system, allowing quite an impressive range of modifications to feed items while still maintaining excellent visual flow. I built a composite feed (including a module that sorts tumblr posts by type) for this blog, and I’m currently trying to regexp the hell out of my Google...

ReBooted
How much the sweetness?  One of the “cartoons” that I watched when I was younger is ReBoot, a CGI episodic series about the life inside your computer.  This morning an article shows up on the net about an entirely new ReBoot series being put into production, as well as a web based comic.  It’s been a couple of years since the double-feature of ReBoot v4.0 (Daemon Rising and My...

Road Angst
For the last few years, Phoenix has been working on putting in a ‘light rail’ system between the metro cities. The upside is another mass transit system, although a woefully slow and limited one. The downside is LOTS of ripped up roads, with more to come before the fiasco is up and running. Did I mention they are already several years and many millions over budget, and that the end...

Wiiventful
My dad finally tried out Wii Sports last Sunday. He was about as adamant against it as could be, but after getting a few rounds of golf under his belt, he was warming up to the idea a bit.   It could have had something to do with my mom “realistically” designing the Mii for him, balding head and all. Now I’ve just got to get him into first-person shooters. Likely? Not so much....

Old is New Again
One of my previous obsessions was over this game called “Magi Nation: Duel”. The rules were great, the gameplay fierce and the best part was the artwork, mostly attributable to a guy named Matt Holmberg. The game has been dead for a couple of years now, but the buzz is that a cartoon based on it is going to be distributed by WBKids this fall. Unfortunately, the artwork sucks. I...

Recycling
I’m moving desks today, and had to put all my bottles in the recycling bin.  Well, the recycling bin, one large trash bag and two small trash bags.  Around 250 Diet Mountain Dew bottles.  I am the sadness.

Rows and Columns
I love Mage: The Awakening. I love it so much that I’ve been compiling information on it’s magic system for weeks. There’s a huge stack of entries ready to enter into the wiki table that’s been sitting on my desk for a long time, but I never seem to get up the gumption to sit down and type it all in. The horror!
